The sculpt for my WIP project needs some time to cure before proceeding to the next process. Using that time, I've decided to complete some of the minimum-sized squad that I've started to paint but never actually finished. Pictured below is my Dire Avengers with an inverted colour scheme. There were two reasons for this; (1) to break the monotony, as most of my armies are either blue or green, and (2) to make use of the Vallejo Pale Grey Wash, which turned out great. Now, I can finally paint a white-based army since I found the right wash for it. And yes, the Dire Avenger rune on the helmets are freehanded.
White (and yellow) is always a hard color to paint well IMHO, and you handle it well, grey wash sounds like a bless, without it, I guess the only way is to basecoat grey then cover up part by part using white (PAINFUL), cool freehand for the rune!
ReplyDeleteThe white on these models are primed white, basecoloured Vallejo Ghost Grey, then washed with Vallejo Pale Grey. After that, subtly highlighted with pure white, but on second look, probably too subtle.
DeleteCool idea. I like it.
ReplyDeleteBut I think they need some black wash especially around the deep recesses.
That will brings out the white armor better.
good point. looking back at the models, I agree that I probably need to make a further pure white highlight on the armour. FYI, the white parts on the models you see in the picture are not actually white, it's Vallejo Ghost Grey ;)
DeleteCool stuff! :)
ReplyDeleteMe likes the freehand symbol. My own hands are about as steady as the ground during a buffalo migration so I am always in awe of cool freehand stuff.
